Satan Never Knew Such a Surprise

"...that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death ~  that is, the devil..."   Hebrews 2:14

What the devil had schemed and labored to accomplish throughout human history, God at last allowed him to achieve ~ to Satan's eternal ruin.  When Jesus rose from the grave three days after His crucifixion, the Evil One's doom was sealed forever.  Satan never knew such a surprise!

It is precisely this truth that allows us and motivates us and energizes us to go forward in the work God gives us.  Our God is a God of surprises!  No night is too dark to hide the Lord's Glory!  The Resurrection guarantees it!

That is why you and I can move into arenas of human devastation and expect to see God work.  That is why we do not despair when disasters of nature or atrocities of mankind seem to threaten God's control of this world.  As members of God's family, bought by the blood of Christ, we are the sons and daughters of an Almighty Savior who brings good out of evil and victory out of defeat.  The devil does not have the final say.  He has already pulled the switch for his own electrocution.

When we find ourselves in the depths of some personal agony, all we can see are the boiling, black clouds of catastrophe;  all we can hear are the snappings and growlings of the wolf-pack nipping at our heels;  all we can imagine is a bleak future devoid of anything good and filled with everything bad.

When that describes you or me, there is only one cure:  Remember the Resurrection!  Remember the empty tomb!  If God can take Satan's most devastating attack and reverse it 180 degrees, no situation is so dark or hopeless that it outstrips His limitless ability to surprise.      Not yours...not mine!

God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform.

He plants His footsteps on the sea and rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines of never-failing skill,

He treasures up His bright designs, and works His Sovereign will.
