THE CHILDREN STORY CORNER
NOT MY WAY
Though He was perfect, Jesus did not insist that everyone should do everything
according to His wishes or plans. He was humble, teachable, and always
interested in pleasing His Father and doing His will.
Do we try always to please our God more
than any other person? It takes a lot of practice before we are able to know
what He would have us do at all times. But the more we practice, the quicker we
will be able to obey. Most of all, we
need to talk to God and ask Him to help us to understand what would make Him
happy. We need to read our Bibles and try to remember Scriptures because that
will help us a lot in knowing what we should do at all times. When we are not sure, the best thing we can do
is to wait. We are told that the Lord does not want us to go ahead and do
things, but be willing to wait when we are not sure just what God would want us
to do. Another thing we could do is to
ask someone who we know loves God who is older, maybe your Mom or Dad.
While waiting is good when we are not sure
what we should do, we are also told in the Bible not to just do nothing, but to
be looking for the answer. When you DO
know what to do, like obeying your Mom or Dad and doing what they ask right
away, this pleases them, especially when you do something with a happy
face. And just as they are happy when
you obey cheerfully, the Lord feels the same happiness when we try to please
Him and do what He wants us to do right away with a happy heart. There are many
examples in the Bible of when God’s people were asked to do something, and they
wanted to do it as soon as they could.
That is true obedience. The Bible tells us of many of God’s people who
rose early in the morning to obey what they had been told to do, even when the
thing God asked was very hard. (See
Genesis 22:1-19). Do you always do what you know you should right away, or do
you find lots of excuses not to obey?
Remember, when you obey your parents, you make God happy.
