THE CHILDREN STORY CORNER

          Are you Honest?

I am sure you all remember the words from your parents to be honest in all things.  It is very tempting to tell a little white lie when we do not want to get in trouble over something, but a lie is a lie no matter what color it is.

Why is it so important to be honest in all things?  How would you feel if you were never sure that what your parents were telling you was the truth? You may say you can tell the difference so it does not matter, but it does.  It matters especially when you are young and learning to choose between right and wrong. While growing up you are building character, so it is important to build one that is trustworthy.  If your parents tell you something is true, you believe them because they have always told you the truth.  You want people to be able to trust you, too, and that starts with always telling the truth about everything.  Especially when it is not favorable to you, then you will be looked up to even more for your honesty.

The Bible is God’s Word to us and it is precious because it is absolutely true and we know we can put our faith in it.  Would it not be a terrible thing if we had to wonder if God’s Words were true or false?  God’s wonderful promises that have come true help us to put our faith in God’s promises for the future.  They lift us up when we are sad, and help to build our characters too.  If your parents tell you something is dangerous, I hope you listen to them.  It will help you to  avoid trouble and its results.           That is one of the reasons the Bible tells us to “let your Yes be Yes, and your No be No.” This means that we should always be sure to speak words that are true, and of “good report!”  Then people will know that they can put their trust in you and when a problem arises where it is your word against someone else’s, if your words have always been honest, others will know you can be trusted, and will believe you.

So let us make sure that our words (and our thoughts) are always honest and right. Not only will your parents be very pleased, but also, and even more important, God will be very happy with you. Pleasing God will be more and more important to you as you grow into adulthood and your life will be a blessing to all those around you.
