                                   WORRY

Do you worry about things often?  Isn’t it usually things that you can’t change or do anything about now?  So just what is it that causes us to worry? We have the belief that if we keep thinking about problems, we will be able to find a way to correct them.  Unfortunately, that is not usually the case, but it doesn’t seem to stop us from fretting and going over and over whatever is troubling us.

What we should get in the habit of doing is going to the Lord immediately about those things that cause us to worry.  Telling the Lord right away about it, asking Him to guide us to think and act in the way that is pleasing to Him.  This will bring about the best solution to our problem.  We often forget to do this, or we don’t think of doing it until we have wasted a lot of time worrying and trying to solve the problem by ourselves.  However, it really should be our very first reaction to anything that causes us to worry.  It is good to remember that our worrying has never solved any of our problems in the past, so it is not likely to do so with our present one.

A good Scripture to memorize is Proverbs 3:5, 6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean to your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”  Another wonderful promise in Psalm 94:19, “When worry was great within me, Your comfort brought joy.”

If we remember that all things are possible with God, we can know there is nothing that will not have an answer with His help.  But, we will not get the Lord’s answer to our problems unless we ask for it.  While it is true God knows what we need before we ask, still He wants us to ask for His help.  It makes us realize how much we need our loving God and helps us to know that He is very interested in our lives and love us, always wanting what is best for us.

It will help us greatly to write down our prayers and problems, and then to also make a note of how the answers came.  If we can look back at how the Lord has helped us in the past, it will help us to more quickly go to Him with our next problem.  It will also give us peace in our hearts, and we will learn to trust the Lord, more and more, for needed answers and save us a lot of needless worry.
