A VERY PRESENT HELP
“The Lord hears you
in the day of trouble; the Name of the God of Jacob defends you; sends you help
from the sanctuary, and strengthens you out of
“…A very present help in trouble” (Psalm
46:1). Interesting that the Hebrew word for “help”
is “ezrath” from a root that means to
surround; that is, both to protect and to aid. Whatever the distress or the
trouble may be the difficult place we find ourselves in, by HIS GRACE we are equal to it, and able to walk on.
Once having gone
through so much pressure and testing, one pondered before the Lord, “Lord, what will be that last straw which
makes the load more than we can bear?” And the Spirit whispered within, In
God there are no last straws, for “God is
faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted more than you are able…” (1
Corinthians 10:13). He is our help, to surround us, our true protection from
all that would overpower us, and our strength towards all that we must face in
our processing.
We also note the
word “present,” for He is our PRESENT
HELP. It is the Hebrew word “matsa”
that literally means, “to be found,”
that is, appear or exist. There is no use having “help” if it cannot be found when you
need it. He is always there, always present, He exists in our now.
“…for a long season
“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call
upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6). “Call unto Me, and I will answer you,
and show you great and mighty things, of which you know not” (Jeremiah
33:3). AMEN!
Very present help
in trouble,
When our pastures turn to stubble,
He is there to be our keeping,
Watchful care, and never sleeping,
Giving mercy to the humble.
