THE CHILDREN’S STORY CORNER:

                            LAUGHTER

What a wonderful thing is the gift of laughter.  It lifts our spirits, brightens our countenance and is good for those who share it with us.

It can be the memory of a funny incident or a funny story, but it can bring laughter to our lips long years later.  It has the power to turn a sad and gloomy day into a happy one.

My whole body relaxes when I laugh and tension seems to disappear.  It also seems to make a difference on those who I’m with in a positive way.  As children of God we are Ambassadors for Christ, so we should be very careful how we look and act and desire to share not just serious truths but the joy of Jesus as well with others whenever we can. Solomon wrote, many centuries ago, “A merry heart does good just like medicine!”

It would be good if we could look for things that bring laughter to the hearts and minds of a mostly sad world.  This does not mean silly things or laughing at someone who is having a problem.  But it does help to see the amusing side of even difficult times. If we can do that  our problems lose some of their depressing effect.

The Bible tells us that it is very important what we think and that our attitude has to do with how we feel in our bodies.  Cheerful thoughts can build up our immune systems but unhappy thoughts tears it down.  We depend on our immune systems to fight off sickness that tries to attack our bodies, so keeping it strong is something we can do by how we think and act.  We are indeed wonderfully and fearfully made as Proverbs has told us.  Another proverb is: “As one thinks in their heart, that is how they really are” (Proverbs 23:7). And the Apostle Paul reminds us that we should try always to think of positive and happy thoughts in Philippians 4:8.

Besides, how can we tell others about how wonderful our God is if we have a sad face, and are always complaining? It dishonors our Lord and also makes others not like to have us around.

So delight in wholesome laughter and help to bring joy to others whenever you can.
