THE
CHILDREN’S STORY CORNER:
SET FREE
If Jesus is our Savior, we are told that
we should live then as “free people.”
See 1 Peter
If you always have negative thoughts and feelings, do you think we are living as a free person? I believe if you think about it, you will see that we would not be free but our really slaves, in a way, to our wrong and negative thinking. It has been proven that such thoughts can be very habit-forming, and also make us literally sick.
Satan will try to plant negative thoughts in our minds, even as he tried to do with our Lord Jesus. He always began tempting Jesus by saying, “IF you are the son of God…” then you can do this or do that. Satan was trying to place doubt in Jesus mind! We can stop the devil the same way Jesus did - with the Words of the Bible, saying, “It is written…” There is a lot of power in God’s Word and in His wonderful promises. If we are fearful, then we are not really a free person. So, when we become fearful, we can say like David the Psalmist said, “When I am afraid, I will TRUST IN YOU!” David put his trust in the Lord to help him have courage at difficult times.
The Bible says that we are all born in sin and held as slaves to sin and its sad results, but the Lord Jesus came to pay for our sins and make us truly free. When we come to Jesus and believe on Him as our Lord and Savior, it is like having a BIG burden taken away! We no longer have to be fearful or feel guilty, because the blood He shed on the Cross truly made us free from all these burdens. We may still be tempted by Satan to think we are not free and still have our burdens, but that is when we can say out loud, “No! Jesus has saved me and taken all my burdens away!” We guard this precious freedom by faith and then not Satan or anyone can ever take it from us.
It is good to remember that Jesus was always kind and helpful to those who felt the weight of their heavy burdens. We, also, should be very kind to those who are still slaves to sin, selfishness and bad thinking and have never come to Jesus to have their burdens lifted. When you tell others what a wonderful Savior Jesus is, they too, can be truly free and happy!
