THE CHILDREN’S STORY CORNER:

                        Are You Ambitious?

Do you have any ambitions?  You may ask what ambitions are and the answer is simple.  It is to have a goal for something or to be something or to do something other than what is in your life now.

It may be natural to look at what someone else is doing or has and wish it for yourself.  However, that may not always be the best thing for you.

For instance, some have had ambitions to make a lot of money when they see what money can buy.  However, if everything in their life becomes only wanting to make more money, other things will lose their importance.  As a result, such people can lose friends or miss out on other things of much greater worth.

Perhaps you remember the story of King Midas who wanted to be able to turn anything he touched into gold.  His wish was granted, but he found for instance, he was unable to eat, because any food he touched turned to gold ~ neither tasty nor chewable!

If someone’s ambition is to be popular, it is possible to forget about improving one’s character, or they may even find themselves going along with people who will drag them down after awhile.

It has been truly said, that the Lord knows what we need far better than we do as to what we want or think we need to be happy.  We can tell Him what we want, but then it is best to leave it in His hands to make the best choices for us, since He always has our best and highest interests at heart.

A story has been told of one who had prayed earnestly to have her precious child restored to health, only to have him turn out to be an ungrateful, angry teenager who constantly whined about what he did not have and berated his mother.  He later on become a hardened criminal and broke his mother’s heart.

That is what selfish ambitions can do to us if we do not seek to know what the Lord’s will for us is and then live up to that knowledge.  So, let’s be ambitious to know our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus.  That ambition will always prove a blessing!
