                                          TRUST

Have you ever thought about trust?  Whom do you trust and why?  Do you know how important trust is?  It makes me think of the story of Abraham.  The Lord promised him a son, but for 25 long years there was no son, yet Abraham never doubted or lost his faith in God.  At last Isaac was born and both Abraham and Sarah were delighted.

Then when Isaac was in his teens, God told him to take his son, his only son, Isaac, whom he loved and sacrifice him for a burnt offering.  Did Abraham try to argue with the Lord, reminding Him that through Isaac were to come blessings for the entire world?  No, what he did was to obey the Lord without question.  He took wood and coals of fire, a knife, and they started off on a three-day journey to Mount Moriah.  When Abraham and Isaac were climbing the mountain, seeing they had the wood and fire, Isaac asked his father where was the lamb for the sacrifice?  Abraham merely answered that the Lord would provide.

When they arrived Abraham built the altar, laid the wood on it, and then tied up Isaac, his son, and laid him on top of the wood upon the altar.  Isaac did not question his father, nor struggle or whine.  He trusted God and he trusted his father.  Can you imagine how Abraham’s heart was pounding, knowing what he had been told to do.   But, he also trusted God and believed He could raise up Isaac from the dead if it was necessary.  It was not until he actually took up the knife and stretched forth his hand to kill his son that the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, “Abraham.”

Abraham answered immediately, “Here am I.”  And the angel said, “Lay not your hand upon the boy: for now I know that you fear God seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me.” When he looked, there was a ram caught in the thicket, so he went and took the ram and offered him for a burnt offering.  Truly the Lord had provided as He had promised.
