THE
CHILDREN’S STORY CORNER:
What
does HONOR mean?
Honor was always important all throughout Bible
times. It is still a very important thing to all people who want to do the
right thing. My mother always impressed the
thought on me that my word was my bond
and because I honored her, I felt obliged to keep my promises. As a result, once I gave a promise to anyone
to do something, I did everything I possibly could to keep that promise.
Do
you keep your promises? If you tell your
parents you will do something, do you make sure you keep that promise and obey
right away? Today, it seems very easy to
make promises to people, to get something we want but often we may forget and
think, “Oh, I’ll do that later.” It
is sad but true, not everyone keeps their promises.
Just
think what a terrible thing it would be if the LORD did not keep His promises? We would never be quite sure of anything He
has said. But He tells us His word will
not return unto him void or empty. That
means that whatever He says He will do; it will
come to pass. God never goes back on
a promise!
After
the great flood in Noah’s day, God said He would never again destroy mankind by
a flood. As a sign of that promise, He
gave us rainbows. Every time you see a
rainbow, it is proof of God’s goodness and faithfulness. He will always keep
His promises.
God
also promised Abraham that He would bless all the families of the earth through
him. Part of that promise came to pass
when Jesus was born, died and rose again as our Savior. The Bible says that He
was Abraham’s “seed.” There is a lot more to that promise that has not happened
yet, but it will in God’s promised
Kingdom that will soon come to earth.
The
LORD had promised Abraham he would have a son when both he and his wife were
too old to do so naturally. After the
promise, they waited 25 years before their promised son was born, but they
never stopped believing God would keep His promise.
Yes,
God keeps His word, so remember, if you do make a promise, be sure you
do your best to keep it. That will please God, others and bring joy to you!
