CHRISTIAN LIVING

Fear or Peace?

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John. 4:18

“He that does not love knows not God; for God is Love.” 1 John 4:8

Heart peace is essential if we are to be living witnesses of the saving power of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Since many professing Christians, lack the evidence of peace in their lives, we will discuss some of the things that destroy peace.

Fear — Anxiety — Tensions

In our atomic and nuclear age, with split second timing, exact due dates of mortgage payments, rents, club dues, insurance premiums, entertainment, donations, taxes of all sorts, and of course the automobile, radio, television and many more items too numerous  to mention; with advertising programs which create a desire for many things which we could well get along without, but we become miserable unless we get them; how to balance the budget and still be free from; fear, anxiety and tensions is a task beyond human capabilities. Yet against all this, the words of Jesus resound as a mighty thunder (Matthew 6:25-34). Have we departed so far from the right way that the currents of paganism are rushing us to disaster?  However, Jesus is ready to help us in the midst of the storms of life; He still says, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Mark 6:50).

Faith — Hope — Love – 1 Corinthians 13:13

Faith, Hope and Love can and do offset the effects of Fear, Anxiety and Tensions. It is a powerful medicine made up of three wonderful ingredients, but it will do no good if applied externally. It is internal medicine and must be taken at frequent intervals.

Have you a care whose pressure dread

Repels sweet slumber from your bed?

To your Redeemer take that care

And change anxiety into prayer.

What’er the care that breaks your rest,

What’er the wish that swells your breast,

Spread before God that wish, that care,

And change anxiety into prayer.
